Corrupted! (Resolved)
OMG please anyone out there I need help :( My external hard drive where I keep all my files is corrupted! All my wokrs are in there. Anyone knows how I can recover all my data? :(
YES! Thank you to Babe for pointing me to Recover My Files software! It managed to search for my missing Humplex folder. I assume it will be able to find my other folders too, but this is the most important!
Phew, the files are steadily and slowly burning on a dvd now. I feel a bit relieved. I can't tell you all how happy I am! Again, thank you SO MUCH to Babe! :D
Lesson to all, backup your files!

If this isn't just a ruse because you either need cash and are hoping this will spur an increase in tips, or because you need an excuse to prolong the release of new content (KK3, for example), then you should do the following:
First, accept the fact that you are not going to get a 100% recovery. If the disk is corrupted, then some data has already been altered/destroyed. The likelihood of all that damage being only in drive format logistics is nil.
Second thing you need to do is disconnect it, completely and immediately. If it's not just disk degradation, there may be a physical component of the drive which is causing damage. And if it is just disk degradation, you also want to agitate it as little as possible.
Third, store the drive in a safe place where it won't be agitated, and contact a data recovery specialist. If you haven't done this kind of thing before, you shouldn't start now.
Anon, oh no I'm not asking for tips but it is important to recover the files in my hard disk because all my art files are in there! :(
I'm going to try to download a data recovery software and see if I can fix my corrupted disk. Wish me luck!
Good luck, hum. :)
I don't know what else to say, since I know virtually nothing about computers, except how to type [barely].
I'm glad to hear everything is okay. I lost an entire drive before myself, so I know how tense a situation like that can be.
But hey, the good news is that even if you did lose a drive, you still have all of us, Hum-dude. And we'll never corrupt. :)
OMG!!! That's where I keep all my music and movies and...naughty stuff! I'll start making back up discs right away!!!
Hey Hum.
I love your stuff and I visit often. Although, every now and then I notice your computer system gives you a bit of a scare. Have you though about getting a new Mac? You probably wont have to worry so much and backing up is automatic with Time Machine.
Just thought I'd drop that on your lap. :)

Time Machine won't save you from hardware problems unless you're backing things up to a different drive.
I don't have a Mac, but being a UNIX geek, I understand how it works: You only have one physical copy of each version of each file, with multiple folder entries pointing to it. This is called hard linking in the UNIX world, and the actual physical file is not deleted until the final file reference to it is gone (this is called reference counting).
In Time Machine, if the final version of Keric's Komplex 3 is corrupted on disk, all copies of the final version of file Keric's Komplex 3 are also corrupted.
Now, different versions of the same file will each have a separate physical file on the disk, one for each revision in Time Machine.
